Tokai Country Club

豊川市, 愛知県, Japan

Tokai Country Club is a 72-par golf course located in the hilly terrain of Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture, in eastern Japan. Opened on October 15, 1961, it was the first golf course established in the Tohokai region. The course spans 300,000 tsubo and was designed by Giichi Sato, a golfer known for his strategic design philosophy. The layout utilizes the natural undulations of the landscape to create a challenging environment for players. The course features two sets of tees with varying yardages. The back tees measure 6,427 yards, while the forward tees extend to 5,389 yards. The front nine holes total 3,600 yards on the back tees, and the back nine measure 2,827 yards. The alternative tee setup offers a total distance of 6,199 yards, with the front nine at 3,052 yards and the back nine at 3,147 yards. The greens are maintained as Penning Bentgrass, providing a consistent putting surface. Tokai Country Club operates as a shareholder membership club with approximately 1,230 members. The facility includes a clubhouse designed by Obayashi Corporation and a driving range with 15 bays stretching 230 yards. The club is situated in a warm climate characterized by scenic views of the surrounding hills. The design by Giichi Sato emphasizes strategy, requiring players to navigate the natural terrain effectively.
