Casa De Campo - Teeth of the Dog

La Romana, Dominican Republic

Designed by Pete Dye, Teeth of the Dog is a par-72 championship golf course located in the Dominican Republic. The 18-hole layout is carved from rugged coastline and coral rock, featuring a yardage of 7,263 yards from the back tees with a USGA Course Rating of 76.0 and a Slope Rating of 135. The course is situated on the Caribbean coast, where the terrain incorporates dramatic cliffside elements and ocean views that define its challenging character. The layout is known for its difficulty, characterized by sharp greens, true contours, and renewed bunkering that reflects Dye’s original design philosophy. The course features a mix of par-3, par-4, and par-5 holes, with the front nine and back nine each offering distinct challenges. Caddies are required for all players on Teeth of the Dog, providing local knowledge to navigate the complex routing and terrain. Teeth of the Dog opened in 1971 after more than 300 workers hand-carved the landscape from coral rock. The name derives from the Spanish phrase "diente de perro," referring to the sharp coral formations found throughout the property. The course has received significant recognition, including a ranking of No. 7 in GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Courses and No. 54 in the World’s 100 Greatest Courses outside the U.S. The course recently underwent a complete restoration to maintain its condition and playability. The renovation included refined greens and fairways, enhanced conditioning, and renewed bunkering inspired by the original Pete Dye design. The practice facilities were also upgraded to support the course's status as a premier golf destination in the Caribbean.
