The Sugar Mountain Golf Classic Amateur Championship is an individual medal, strokeplay event held on August 15–16, 2026 at the Sugar Mountain Public Golf Course in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Open to amateur men and women ages 18 and over, the tournament is limited to 72 entrants with an entry deadline of August 1, 2026. The entry fee is $125 per person, which includes two days of play (cart and green fees) and a Sunday post-play cookout at Caddyshack Café with the awards celebration. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each of four flights, with first place receiving $300, second $200, and third $100. The overall low scorer is named Amateur Champion. All participants receive a tee gift. Saturday features a 7:30 AM continental breakfast and 8:30 AM shotgun start; Sunday includes a similar breakfast followed by a shotgun start based on Saturday's qualifying round, then the cookout and awards. Handicap is used only for Saturday pairings. Entry can be submitted online via the entry form at seesugar.com/classic or by mail with a check to the Sugar Mountain Golf Club.

The course opened for play in 1974, designed by Frank Duane, previously the senior project manager for more than two decades for Robert Trent Jones, the undisputed dean of golf course architecture. The par-64 layout maximizes every mountain view, babbling brook, and rhododendron forest on the 60-acre site and features nine par threes, eight par fours, and a single par five. At an elevation of 4,000 feet, the course features immaculate putting surfaces, hailed by those who play here as second to none. Located in the Village of Sugar Mountain, it is in the Banner Elk area, near Boone, North Carolina. The course is a public facility in a region known for private country club communities. The location offers cool summer temperatures with typical afternoon highs in the 60s and 70s. Voted the #6 executive course in the USA, the Village of Sugar Mountain's public course is one of the most popular in the High Country of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
