Golfclub Hohenstaufen

Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The Golfclub Hohenstaufen is a parkland-style 18-hole course located in Donzdorf, Baden-Württemberg, situated on the Swabian Alb under the Ramsberg. The layout is characterized by expansive deciduous trees and tall conifers that provide shade and shelter, set amidst orchard meadows and mixed forests. The course has evolved over more than 60 years, beginning with a 9-hole layout on a former US Army airfield in 1959 before moving to its current location. The 18-hole facility was officially completed in 1999, following a decision to expand made in 1985. The course is designed to challenge players through varied terrain and technical demands. A notable feature is the 15th hole, which incorporates a technical water hazard. The layout is integrated into the natural landscape, offering views of the Swabian Alb mountain range. The club emphasizes a fair but ambitious playing experience, with the course design reflecting the history of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, whose legacy is documented across the 18 holes. The club has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1959. It initially operated on a 9-hole course within the Cook Barracks airfield before establishing its own grounds. The first 9-hole layout at the current site opened in 1977, with the clubhouse following in 1978. The expansion to 18 holes took 15 years to realize, culminating in the full course opening in 1999. The club continues to host various tournaments and events, maintaining a strong presence in the regional golf community.
