Tosa Country Club is a 36-hole facility located on the hills of Mount Teinu in Kochi Prefecture, Japan, established in 1967. The course is divided into three distinct 18-hole layouts: the Asizuri Course, the Katurahama Course, and the Muroto Course. Situated on the slopes of Mount Teinu, the grounds offer expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and the Kuroshio Current, with the terrain featuring rolling hills, valleys, and significant elevation changes. The landscape is characterized by subtropical vegetation, including hibiscus and sago palms, which contribute to the course's distinct southern atmosphere. The Asizuri Course is defined by its strategic demands and dramatic topography. It features numerous downhill shots, uphill challenges, and holes that require crossing valleys. The layout includes several dogleg holes and blind shots, with the second hole serving as a short par-3 that crosses a valley. The ninth hole is a demanding long par-4, while the fourteenth is a short hole that presents varying challenges depending on the tee selection. The sixteenth hole is a difficult uphill par-4 that finishes with a dogleg, requiring precise approach shots to a green protected by slopes. The Katurahama Course offers a mix of strategic length and scenic beauty, particularly through the third through seventh holes which traverse green, wind-swept terrain. The fifth hole is noted as the most challenging on this layout, featuring a long left dogleg where a slice is penalized. The ninth hole, the finishing hole, is a signature par-4 that plays over a water hazard to the green. The course includes a par-3 sixth hole that requires a carry over water, and the second hole is a long, flat par-4 with out-of-bounds on both sides, demanding accurate driving. The Muroto Course provides a more open experience with holes that prioritize distance control and wind management over trickery. The first hole is a long right dogleg that narrows significantly near the green, requiring a precise second shot. The ninth hole is a long par-3 that crosses a valley, serving as a dramatic finish that tests distance judgment. The layout includes several par-4s and par-5s that play into or down the wind, with greens that often feature subtle slopes and complex grass grain that affect putting. The course is known for its comfortable playing conditions, with sea breezes providing relief in the summer and warmer temperatures in the winter. The design encourages both bold play on the long holes and delicate touch on the approach shots, appealing to a wide range of golfers. The facility has maintained its reputation for strategic design and natural beauty since its opening, offering a distinct coastal golfing experience in the Shikoku region.
