Red Cloud Golf Course

Red Cloud Golf Course is a nine-hole public facility located two miles east and a half mile north of Red Cloud, Nebraska. Designed by late PGA Tour professional Harry Obitz and opened in 1988, the course is situated on uneven, hilly terrain that requires accuracy and shot-making skills. The layout features elevated greens with three to four foot drop-offs on all sides, a design choice intended to allow for quick play after heavy rain. The course is a member of the Nebraska Golf Association and is open year-round. The difficulty of the course is characterized by its native rough and numerous sidehill lies, which make navigation challenging. The fairways and greens are maintained in good condition, but the natural terrain dictates that players must hit and hold the greens to score well. The course includes a driving range, a putting green, and a full clubhouse with a bar and snack bar. Cart rentals are available, and the facility operates with a no-spikes policy. A notable feature of the layout is the sixth hole, where the tee shot from the blue tees is completely blind to the fairway, with only a row of evergreens visible directly in the player's line. This hole is cited as the most interesting on the course, highlighting the strategic demands of the design. The course is equipped with a pro shop and meeting room, and it is recognized for being fun for players of all levels despite its challenging nature. Tournament history and schedules are managed through the Red Cloud Golf Course, with specific event calendars available for recent years such as 2023. The facility is associated with the Red Cloud Golf Club, which maintains a presence on social media platforms. The course is situated in Webster County and serves as a local recreational hub for the community.
