Located in Hashimoto City, Wakayama Prefecture, Hashimoto Country Club is a 27-hole facility set across 800,000 tsubo of hilly terrain. Designed by Osamu Ueda and opened in October 1966, the course is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops: the East, Middle, and West courses. Each nine carries a par of 36, resulting in a total course par of 72. The greens are maintained with New Bentgrass T1, and the layout offers a choice between caddie-assisted play and self-guided rounds using GPS-enabled five-seater carts. The East and West courses are characterized as athlete-level layouts, having hosted the Kansai Open Golf Championship in 2016. The East Course is noted for its length and strategic complexity, featuring a signature par-5 fifth hole that is described as the most difficult on the course. This 557-yard hole from the black tees requires precise placement, with the left side of the fairway offering the best approach while the right side forces a difficult second shot over trees and hills. The ninth hole on the East Course is a 508-yard par-5 dogleg left that penalizes aggressive driving with front bunkers, making conservative play essential for par. The West Course presents a straight, long-hole challenge, particularly at the seventh hole, which is a 544-yard par-5 recommended for long hitters. The Middle Course is generally considered more accessible, with a layout that tends to produce lower scores and is popular among senior and ladies' players. The fourth hole on the Middle Course is a 527-yard par-5 that serves as the primary driving distance test for that loop. The course design incorporates multiple tee boxes, allowing players to adjust the difficulty and yardage to match their handicap and physical capability. Hashimoto Country Club has a significant history in professional golf, having hosted the Wizard Tournament from 1970 to 1978 and the Japan-US International Match Play Competition in 1973 and 1974. These events established the course's reputation for a challenging, strategic test of golf. The facility continues to attract competitive play through its regular club championships and monthly tournaments, catering to a wide range of skill levels from average golfers to professional athletes.
