Daifuji Golf Club is a 72-par, 18-hole course located in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Designed by agronomy professor Nobutoshi Marumo, the course opened in 1954 and expanded to its current 18-hole layout in 1960. The course is characterized by its undulating terrain and natural contours, which demand precise iron play and shot control rather than relying solely on distance. The layout is described as a mountain course with a total length of 6,448 yards from the back tees, featuring a course rating of 71.1. The setting offers expansive views of Mount Fuji and the Suruga Bay, providing a scenic backdrop for play. The course is known for its "Scottish links" style, where the natural landscape has been integrated into the design to create a challenging and authentic golfing experience. The fairways are maintained with a handcrafted feel, requiring golfers to navigate subtle slopes and strategic hazards. Notable holes include the first hole, "Omote Fuji," a 331-yard par 4 that plays directly toward Mount Fuji, and the eighth hole, "Uma no Se" (Horse's Back), a 316-yard par 4 known for its narrow fairway that resembles a horse's back. The course also features the "Niagara" par 5 on the fourth hole, which stretches 486 yards, and the "Hidori Goe" par 5 on the seventh, measuring 477 yards. These holes, along with others like the "Sakura" par 3 on the tenth hole, test players' ability to control ball flight and distance. Daifuji Golf Club has a rich history, having been one of the older courses in Shizuoka Prefecture. It was initially developed with the aim of promoting golf in the region, and its opening was marked by a rapid construction timeline. The course has maintained its reputation as a traditional and respected venue, attracting golfers who appreciate its strategic design and natural beauty. The club continues to offer a challenging and enjoyable round for players of all skill levels, with modern amenities such as GPS-enabled carts to assist with navigation.
