Located on the expansive grounds of Mount Akagi in Gunma Prefecture, Akagi International Country Club is a 27-hole facility established in 1964. The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops—South, West, and East—separated by pine forests and featuring two separate greens. Designed and supervised by Shigeru Ishii and Hidenori Kobayashi, the layout spans 750,000 tsubo of terrain, offering a strategic challenge for players of all levels. The South and West courses share a first green with a back tee distance of 3,586 yards and a par of 72, while the West and East loops share another first green measuring 3,517 yards from the back tees. The East and South combination provides a back tee length of 3,544 yards. Each nine-hole loop is a par 36, allowing for flexible play configurations. The course features Korean grass fairways, Bentgrass (Pencross) greens, and wild grass roughs. Course ratings from the back tees range from 73.1 to 73.4, with the South and West combination playing at 73.3 from 7,106 yards and the East and South loop at 73.4 from 7,133 yards. The West and East combination plays at 73.1 from 7,061 yards. The longest holes on the property include the 547-yard 5th on the South loop and the 545-yard 2nd and 8th holes on the East loop. The facility has a notable tournament history, particularly regarding the Japan Men's Professional Golf Tour. In 1984, during the East-West Competition, professional golfer Michi Nakamura recorded a score of 62 on the West and South courses. The course continues to host various open competitions and events, maintaining its reputation as a serious playing venue for golf enthusiasts.
