Ogori Country Club

福岡県, Japan

Located in Ogori City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Ogori Country Club is a 27-hole facility set within a hilly landscape. The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops: the West, East, and South courses. The West and East loops are characterized by wide fairways and large greens, while the South course is noted for its longer distances and greater difficulty, particularly on its mid-range holes. The total yardage for the back tees across the three loops ranges from 3,340 yards on the West to 3,385 yards on the South, with a combined par of 108 for the full 27 holes. The layout is designed to offer strategic variety, with the West and East courses described as bright and open. The South course presents a more challenging test, requiring careful navigation of its longer holes. The terrain is interspersed with natural features, including old pine trees, bamboo groves, and cedar and cypress forests. Large ponds are strategically placed throughout the layout, adding to the strategic demands of the course. The club utilizes Kooryu grass for its greens and offers a mix of caddie-assisted play and self-play with five-person carts that can access the fairways. Ogori Country Club opened in November 1964, with the full 18 holes completing their official opening in 1965. The South course was added in 1974, expanding the facility to its current 27-hole configuration. The club has hosted significant events, including the Kansai Professional Golf Championship in 1982 and the Kyushu Open in 2017. It is the 8th course to open in Fukuoka Prefecture and is part of a larger group that also operates Shima Seaside Country Club and Akanegolf Club. The facility is situated near the Kuroiwa Inari Shrine, which is said to enshrine a spirit from the Heike clan, and is located close to the Yayoi-period Mizusawa ruins.
