Rushmere Golf Course

Suffolk, England

Rushmere Golf Club, established in 1927, is located on Rushmere Common on the outskirts of Ipswich, Suffolk. The course is built on heathland with rapidly draining soil, allowing it to remain open virtually year-round. Golf has been played on this common for over a century, making it a historically significant venue in the region. The club features multiple courses including Red and Yellow options, accommodating golfers of all ages and abilities. The layout includes at least 12 holes, with temporary greens occasionally in play during winter maintenance periods. The heathland setting provides characteristic challenging terrain typical of East Anglian courses. Rushmere has earned a reputation as one of Suffolk's friendliest and most welcoming clubs. The course welcomes both visitors and societies throughout the year, with many groups returning regularly. Notable aspects include the public right of way across common land where members of the public can walk, requiring golfers to remain mindful of their surroundings. The club hosts events including the Seniors Open tournament, demonstrating its role in regional competitive golf.
