Golfclub Varus

Ostercappeln, Niedersachsen, Germany

Golfclub Varus is an 18-hole golf course located in Ostercappeln-Venne in the Osnabrück region of Germany. The course holds the unique distinction of being Germany's only 18-hole golf course built on a historic battlefield—the site of the Varusschlacht (Battle of Teutoburg Forest) from 9 AD. The facility is situated within one of the world's few UNESCO Global Geoparks, offering players the opportunity to experience golf amid significant historical and geological significance. The course features a sophisticated drainage system that enables year-round playability, providing approximately five additional months of playing time compared to courses without such infrastructure. The layout is described as spacious and expansive, set within a natural landscape that characterizes the region. Beyond the main 18-hole course, the facility includes a driving range and a short course for quicker rounds. Golfclub Varus caters to both members and guests, offering instruction through its golf school, equipment rental including electric carts, and a clubhouse with dining facilities. The course is managed by Golfclub Varus e.V. and welcomes players of all skill levels.
