Venue

Mowbray Golf Club

Western Cape, South Africa

Established in 1910, King David Mowbray Golf Club is one of Cape Town's oldest golf clubs. In 2016, the club merged with King David Golf Club, creating a unified venue that honours the legacy of South African golf. The scenic parkland course is conveniently located near Cape Town's city centre, with easy access from the N2 highway. The course is an 18-hole layout with a par of 72, measuring 6,505 yards with a rating of 72.8 and slope of 135. Notable architect Robert Grimsdell worked as the club pro until 1926 and returned in the 1950s to make design changes to the original layout. The course challenges golfers with its thoughtful design, featuring tree-lined fairways shaped by crosswinds and small, well-bunkered greens. The par 4, 15th hole is of particular note with a long narrow undulating fairway and a green overlooked by Table Mountain. The par 3s are extremely tricky targets when the wind is up, with the eighth hole described as the most difficult Stroke 18 in South Africa. The compact and scenic parkland course hosted 7 SA Opens in an earlier era. Recent tournament highlights include hosting the 2020 Cape Town Ladies Open and the 2019 Men's SA Amateur Championship.
