Kooralbyn Valley Golf Course

Queensland, Australia

Kooralbyn Valley is an 18-hole championship golf course located in Kooralbyn, Queensland, approximately one hour from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The course opened in October 1979 and was designed by renowned Scottish architect Desmond Muirhead. The layout features contrasting nines, with the front nine winding through natural valleys and watercourses, while the back nine incorporates approximately 10 hectares of lakes in the valley basin. The course showcases significant elevation changes and natural terrain features, earning recognition as one of Queensland's premier resort courses. The course gained prominence early in its history when it hosted the 1981 Queensland Open championship. Notable golfers including Jason Day and Adam Scott developed their skills at Kooralbyn. A signature hole is the par-3 fifth, measuring approximately 220 metres and dropping around 100 feet from tee to green, which was featured in the book 'Classic Golf Hole Design'. Following closure during the global financial crisis, the course underwent extensive renovation beginning in 2016 under new ownership, with all greens redesigned, bunkers refurbished with white sand, and a modern irrigation system installed. The course is ranked among Queensland's top resort golf courses.
