Machynys Peninsula Golf Club was built in 2005 and designed by Nicklaus Design. The course is an 18-hole championship layout with a par of 72 and measures 7,121 yards. Situated between Llanelli and Swansea in the Millennium Coastal Park, the course sits on the edge of Carmarthen Bay overlooking the Gower Peninsula with a challenging, links-style design. Machynys has been designed to challenge the best players in championship conditions while remaining enjoyable for higher handicappers through the utilization of up to five tees on every hole. Monk's Island is the youngest course ever to be awarded an R&A championship and has recently hosted multiple R&A Championships including the 2023 Senior Open Qualifier and Mens & Womens Home Internationals. Since opening, the course has hosted the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe and the R&A Boys Home Internationals. The course features links characteristics with water hazards and is set on open terrain compensating for the lack of towering sand dunes typical of traditional links courses.
