Olmos Basin Golf Course is one of San Antonio's premier municipal courses, located north of downtown off Highway 281. Originally designed by George Hoffman and opened in 1963, the course underwent a comprehensive renovation completed in November 2021 by architect Jeffrey D. Blume, ASGCA, incorporating modern golf course infrastructure. The layout features five tee boxes ranging from 4,878 to 7,038 yards, accommodating golfers of all skill levels. Tree-lined fairways and a winding creek that traverses multiple holes define the course character. Key challenges include long par 3s and narrow fairways demanding accuracy, with the 2nd hole—a tree-lined par 4 dogleg right—presenting the most difficulty. The greens feature significant undulation, creating an engaging putting experience and numerous birdie opportunities. The course has hosted numerous Men's and Women's City Amateur Championships. Despite its challenges, Olmos Basin remains accessible to beginners while engaging scratch golfers. The tees consist of Latitude 36 Bermuda, greens are Tifeagle Bermuda, and the course provides hitting nets rather than a traditional driving range. As the Alamo City Golf Trail's most-played course, it serves as a popular destination for both recreational and competitive golfers.
