Cobbs Creek Golf Course Olde

PA, United States

Cobbs Creek Golf Course, established in 1916, is a 340-acre public, city-owned golf course in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The historic 18-hole Olde Course was designed by the design team of Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner. Originally designed by renowned course architect Hugh Wilson (architect of the famed Merion-East course), the Olde Course is a mature tree-lined golf course. Accuracy is a must on the front nine as the layout takes full advantage of the namesake creek, which meanders through the course and comes into play on the first six holes. The back nine is equally as challenging and is highlighted by a string of lengthy holes including the monstrous 638-yard 14th Hole. The Olde Course is the crown jewel amongst Philadelphia's courses, having been nationally ranked as the #6 Best Municipal Course by Golfweek Magazine. Cobb's Creek served as host to the 1928 USGA Amateur Public Links tournament and a PGA Tour event, the 1955 Philadelphia Inquirer Open. Charlie Sifford, the first Black golfer to play in a PGA tour event, learned to play at the course. It was one of the first courses in the area to welcome golfers of all races, ethnicities, and genders.
