Whittington Heath Golf Club

Whittington Heath Golf Club is a heathland golf course established in 1886, originally with a few holes set amongst the heath adjacent to Whittington Barracks. The course was remodeled to 18 holes by renowned architect Harry Colt in 1927. Located in Staffordshire, the course is designed in sympathy with the natural heathland terrain, offering considerable variety and year-round playability. The course measures approximately 6,658 yards at par 71 from the white tees, with multiple tee positions accommodating different skill levels. In 2022, architect Jonathan Gaunt added five new holes and rerouted some original holes, reflecting changes necessitated by the HS2 project. This redesign opened for play in March 2022. As a true test of heathland golf, Whittington Heath features the characteristic undulating terrain and natural vegetation typical of heathland courses. The layout presents varied challenges across its eighteen holes, with a range of stroke index ratings providing appropriate handicap adjustments for different player abilities. The course remains a notable example of heathland course design, combining historical significance with modern updates to maintain its relevance as a contemporary golfing venue.
