Venue

Royal Liverpool Golf Course

Hoylake, Merseyside, England

Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake is one of England's oldest seaside links courses and a historic venue in golf's development. The course presents a demanding test of shot selection, distance control, and accuracy, with an apparently flat appearance that belies its difficulty, particularly when wind strengthens and rough deepens. The club has hosted 13 Open Championships, producing 13 different champions including notable winners such as Harold Hilton, Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, Roberto De Vicenzo, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy. This impressive tournament history underscores the course's status as a premier championship venue. The most recent Open Championship in 2023 saw Brian Harman claim victory at the 151st edition. Royal Liverpool's design creates significant challenges for players at all levels, with the links-style terrain requiring precision and strategic thinking. The course remains true to its original conception as a demanding examination of golf fundamentals, making it a respected test that separates elite competitors during major championships. Located on Meols Drive in Hoylake on the Wirral, the club represents a crucial chapter in British golf history and continues to host prestigious competitions.
