Medal Course

Angus, United Kingdom

The Medal Course is a 6,650-yard, par 71 layout used as an Open qualifying venue located in Angus, Scotland. The course is a natural mix of heathland and links with a fair share of hazards including deep riveted bunkers, while the narrow, running fairways, penal heavy rough and fast consistent greens will test any standard of golfer. The course has a reputation as a hard, uncompromising layout, bounded on one side by the main railway line, with particularly tough stretches of rough awaiting errant shots when the prevailing wind blows in from the Firth of Tay. The first formal course was designed by Allan Robertson of St. Andrews in 1845 as a 9-hole layout, and was later extended to 18 holes in 1880. Monifieth Golf Club hosted Final Qualifying for the Open in 1999, and more recently the Medal course was used as a qualifying venue for the Seniors Open Championship in 2024. The course features large, fast, firm and true greens and clever bunkering, making it one of Scotland's premier championship links courses.
