Wigtown and Bladnoch Golf Club

Dumfries and Galloway, United Kingdom

Wigtown and Bladnoch Golf Club is a nine-hole parkland course situated at Lightlands Terrace, on the edge of Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland. Founded in 1894, the course plays to a par of 68 over 18 holes, stretching to around 5,570 yards. The layout is attributed to designer J. Muir and sits within the gentle rolling countryside of the Machars peninsula, close to the River Bladnoch from which it takes its name. The course occupies lush parkland terrain and is broadly forgiving off the tee, though it offers a fair degree of variety. Several dogleg holes require golfers to shape their approach across the fairway, and the back end of the round is defined by well-maintained greenside bunkers that guard holes six through nine. From the fourth tee, the course opens up to expansive views of Wigtown Bay and across the Solway Firth towards the hills of the Lake District. The third hole, a 195-yard par three, is widely regarded as the signature hole. Only the pin is visible from the tee, with out of bounds running along the left. The fairway slopes from left to right, with rough and trees to the right, leading to a sloping green. The course is also noted for its small greens and natural water hazards, presenting a fair challenge for golfers across a range of abilities.
