Pete Dye Challenge Course

CA, United States

The Pete Dye Challenge Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, opened in 1988 as a demanding 18-hole layout stretching 6,955 yards. Designed by legendary architect Pete Dye, the course features rolling fairways, elevated greens, and Dye's signature deep bunkers and railroad tie accents marking scenic lakes throughout the property. Located in the Coachella Valley, the course presents a strategic test of skill with water hazards, bunker complexes, and undulating green complexes that demand precise shot-making. Notable challenging holes include the par-4 second hole—the course's number-one handicap—with water along the left side, and the par-5 16th, another difficult two-shotter with water guarding the right fairway. Multiple par-3s require accurate tee shots over water hazards. The course plays with Tifway 419 Bermuda fairways, Tiffdwarf greens, and Bermuda rough. With handicaps varying significantly between tees and genders, the Pete Dye Challenge Course accommodates multiple skill levels while maintaining its reputation as a bold, unforgiving test designed to push golfers to their limits.
