Mercury Bay Golf Club is an 18-hole course located in Whitianga, New Zealand, situated on 47 acres of land on Golf Road. The course has a rich history dating back to 1932, with its current layout established in phases: the front nine opened in 1960 on purchased farmland following decades of relocations, and the back nine was added in 1984 using land acquired from Thames Coromandel District Council. The course is set in a scenic coastal area, with the landscape featuring typical New Zealand terrain that required significant development including scrub clearing, drainage work, and fencing. The club's design reflects practical golfing conditions suited to the local environment, having evolved from its early days when sheep maintained the fairways and local rules addressed natural hazards like wheel tracks and swamps. Mercury Bay Golf Club serves both members and visitors, offering a welcoming community golf experience. The course represents a testament to volunteer efforts over decades, with the club's development intertwined with the local Whitianga community's growth and changing land use patterns throughout the 20th century.
