Wellington, New Zealand
Masterton Golf Club, founded in 1899, sits atop Lansdowne Hill—the highest point of Masterton in New Zealand's Wairarapa region. Located in the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail, less than 2 hours from Wellington and just over 2 hours from Hawkes Bay, the course offers a challenging tree-lined undulating layout with rolling fairways.
The course is characterized by its elevated position with stunning panoramic views of the district from virtually every hole. Most notably, the first tee presents spectacular views of the Tararua Mountains, particularly striking in winter when snow-cloaked. The undulating terrain and tree-lined fairways create the primary design challenges throughout the course.
Masterton Golf Club holds historical significance in New Zealand golf, notably as the club where Sir Bob Charles honed his skills approximately 60 years ago, before becoming one of golf's legendary figures. The club welcomes both members and visitors to experience its distinctive landscape and challenging play.
