Created in 1895 by British aristocrats, Golf de Valescure is the oldest course in the Var department and the fifth oldest in France. Surrounded by umbrella pines, this 18-hole course stretches 5,019 meters with a par of 68. Designed by renowned architect Harry Shapland Colt, the course features multiple relatively short holes that create a deceptively challenging layout. Success requires precision over distance, as narrow fairways, difficult rough, numerous water hazards, and small greens demand strategic club selection and thoughtful play. The course's design necessitates constant decision-making and wise course management. Originally founded as a 9-hole course, Colt expanded it to 18 holes in 1909, establishing Valescure as a pilgrimage site for golf architecture enthusiasts. The course has hosted significant competitions including the Omnium de la Riviera since 1954, and continues to accommodate national and international tournaments, reflecting its status as a high-caliber golfing venue.
