Orkney Golf Club is an 18-hole course located on Wideford Hill overlooking Kirkwall in Orkney, Scotland. Founded in 1889, it is the oldest and longest of four courses in the islands. Playing at 5,407 yards off the white tees, the course presents a challenging and fair test of golf despite its modest length. The course features significant hazards including out of bounds on nine holes and heavy rough and gorse on most holes, demanding accuracy from the tee. The relatively short yardage can deceive golfers unaccustomed to playing shorter courses, as keeping the ball in play is essential even for low handicap players. Set on sloping terrain, the course offers panoramic views across Kirkwall and the Northern Isles, providing a scenic backdrop to play. The well-maintained layout combines natural topography with strategic design elements that reward straight driving and course management. The club is community-run by volunteers and welcomes golfers of all abilities, genders, and ages. It hosted golf competitions during the 2025 Island Games, with Orkney's teams winning medals in both men's and women's events.
