Askernish Golf Course is a historic links layout designed by Old Tom Morris in 1891 on the Isle of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The course is set on the Machair, a unique semi-natural Hebridean habitat characterized by shell sand soils and fertile plains, creating an extraordinarily distinctive golfing environment virtually untouched by modern development. The course is maintained without artificial irrigation, fertilizers, or pesticides, preserving its natural links character and earning recognition for sustainability practices. Players experience golf as it would have been played in Morris's era, with the dramatic island landscape and rugged terrain defining the playing experience. Askernish hosts several notable competitions including the Outer Hebrides Pairs Championship and the Askernish Open Weekend, which features multiple formats including strokeplay and scramble competitions. The course remains open year-round, offering a challenging and immersive links experience in one of Scotland's most remote and scenic locations.
