Manakiki Golf Course is an elegant 18-hole public course located 17 miles east of downtown Cleveland in the North Chagrin Reservation. Designed by the renowned Donald Ross, the classic layout offers diverse challenges including doglegs, water hazards, uphill and downhill shots, back-to-back par 5s, and notably two canyon holes at the 10th and 18th. The 200-acre course occupies the former summer estate of Cleveland industrialist Howard Hanna, with its clubhouse built from the expanded Hanna Mansion. Manakiki opened to public play on January 1, 1961, and hosted the Carling Open in the 1950s. Hole #8 was considered the tour's most difficult par 4 at that time, while hole #15 ranks among Cleveland's best par 3 holes. The striking canyon holes at 10 and 18 provide an exceptional start and finish sequence. A comprehensive 1990 master plan restored much of the original Ross character, including rebuilt tees, new irrigation systems, and restoration of strategic bunkers and ponds.
