Houldsworth Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course located two miles from Stockport town center and five miles from Manchester city center. Founded in 1910, the course was redesigned by renowned Welsh architect Dave Thomas in 1993. The layout is characteristically flat parkland terrain, described as "a test of golf not fitness," designed to challenge players of all abilities. The course features several water hazards and is noted for its "Amen Corner" stretch of holes 11-14, which members consider the most challenging section. The signature hole is the 13th, a 535-yard par 5 called "Island," where the green is surrounded by water with a strategic layup option to the right. The 14th, a 162-yard par 3 named "Lake," requires players to carry water to reach a narrow green. Thomas's design philosophy emphasizes creating a golf test that enhances enjoyment across all skill levels. The course offers views across the grounds toward the Manchester skyline and includes a clubhouse with catering facilities.
