Golf Castillo de Gorraiz is an 18-hole championship course set in the Valle de Egüés, just five minutes north of Pamplona in the autonomous community of Navarre. Designed by the American architect Cabell B. Robinson — whose other credits include La Reserva de Sotogrande and Finca Cortesin — the course opened in spring 1995 after construction on a site of around 70 hectares began in 1993. It plays to a par of 72, stretches to approximately 6,300 yards from the back tees, and carries a course rating of 74.1 with a slope of 139. The layout is characterised by wide, undulating fairways set among gently rolling hills, with three sizeable lakes incorporated as strategic hazards throughout the round. One of the course's more distinctive qualities is that the elevated tee positions allow players to see almost the entire length of each hole before playing their shot, which aids course management but also reveals the demands ahead. Six doglegs require considered shot placement off the tee, and the par-3 holes, several of which involve carries over water, play between roughly 150 and 200 yards. The greens are large and notably undulating, requiring careful reading. The par-4 18th, measuring around 450 yards and rated as stroke index 1, is the most demanding hole on the course and provides a stern finish. The course sits within the wider Gorraiz residential urbanisation and is part of a hotel and sports complex that includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis and paddle tennis courts, and a gym. The surrounding landscape offers views across the Pamplona basin, and the relative absence of mature trees gives the course an open, exposed character that makes wind an occasional factor during play.
