Thornton Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course established in 1921 and located on Station Road in the village of Thornton in the Heartlands of Fife, Scotland. The club was founded in August 1921, with an initial membership drawn largely from railway and mine workers, and the first nine-hole course was laid out on land at Mid Strathorne Farm. The club moved to its present site in April 1926. The course was originally a nine-hole layout before being extended to 18 holes in 1975. No single architect is attributed with the design of the current layout. The course plays to a par of 70 over 6,210 yards from the white tees, with a course rating of 69.9 and a slope of 123. The layout occupies gently rolling parkland bounded by the River Ore, which forms a natural boundary along part of the course. Tree-lined avenues of mature woodland divide and frame the fairways throughout, placing a consistent premium on accuracy off the tee. The terrain is generally easy to walk, making the course accessible across all abilities. The layout contains a mix of long and short par fours, two par fives, and three par threes, creating variety across the round. The finishing five holes are regarded as the most demanding stretch of the course, holding a player's attention through to the final green. The greens are the most consistently praised aspect of the course, with their condition and pace frequently cited as among the best in Fife. The clubhouse, which opened in 1996, overlooks the second and eighteenth greens and provides views across the surrounding countryside.
