Gilling Castle Golf Club is a 9-hole parkland course located in Gilling Park, offering scenic views over the North York Moors from the elevated long holes. The layout features sloping terrain with several holes positioned along valley sides, creating a challenging walking course that plays considerably longer than scorecard distances suggest, particularly holes 1 and 10, which are uphill and typically played into prevailing winds.
The course has WHS ratings of 66.9/126 for white tees (men) and 65.3/122 and 70.7/125 for red tees (men and women respectively). The course record of 67 is held by Tim Smith, achieved during the 2017 Club Championship. The Abbey woods surrounding the course serve as a wildlife refuge, attracting diverse species including roe deer, brown hare, woodcock, buzzards, and various woodland birds. The natural setting also features bluebells near the second hole and mixed fungi species throughout the course, contributing to its distinctive character within the North Yorkshire landscape.
