Round two takes the field north to Mombasa's most storied golf club. Nyali Golf & Country Club has been at the heart of Kenyan coastal golf since 1958, when a nine-hole layout was created on a 150-acre site once used for sisal production. The club expanded to a full 18 holes in 1980 and has been a cornerstone of East African tournament golf ever since.<\/p>\n

Designed by local golfer Monty Lowry on what was originally a British Army camp, the course is a characterful parkland layout set in a predominantly woodland environment a few hundred metres back from the Indian Ocean coastline. The fairways are lined with flowering trees - including the spectacular Madagascan Flame Tree - and the course features distinctive Polana grass greens brought from Mozambique, giving the putting surfaces a firm, true character.<\/p>\n

Wildlife adds considerably to the atmosphere: the club's mascot is the vervet monkey, and these cheeky creatures are frequently spotted during a round. The PGA Baobab Course at Vipingo Ridge is a par 72, 6,586-yard championship layout designed by former Kenya Open winner and European Tour professional David Jones. It holds the remarkable distinction of being the only PGA-accredited golf course in Africa, and serves as host venue for the Magical Kenya Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour.<\/p>\n
