Among the 163 courses in Wales on our database, we have just over 400 open events planned for 2026.\u00a0 These are spread between just 59 courses, but there are some real crackers in there. As seems to often be the case, you can also grab a bargain by booking into an open competition because the entry fees for visitors are often so much lower than normal vistor green fees. So what are you waiting for – get those competitive juices flowing and save money at the same time!<\/p>

There seems to be a common theme amongst the Welsh open events of Betterball and Am\/Am formats rather than hardcore individual competitions. Maybe that’s just a coincidence or an indication of a more relaxed way of life in these parts.<\/p>

Prestatyn Golf Club, established in 1905, is an 18-hole Championship links course located on the North Wales coast at Marine Road. The course presents a classic links layout with well-maintained greens that are consistently praised by visiting players. The terrain features strategically placed fairway bunkers and challenging par threes that are notably well-protected. The course is known for its demanding characteristics in windy conditions, with interesting hole design across its par 4s and 5s that provide a challenge for all skill levels.<\/p>

Abergele Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course located in Tan-Y-Gopa, Abergele, Conwy, North Wales. The course is renowned as one of the most picturesque in Wales, distinguished by its spectacular backdrop of the historic Gwrych Castle and stunning coastal views. The layout traverses varied terrain typical of parkland design, offering an engaging test of golf for players of all abilities.<\/p>

Vale of Llangollen Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 parkland course measuring around 6,600 to 6,700 yards from the back tees, situated on the valley floor beside the River Dee in Llangollen, Denbighshire, north Wales. The club was founded in 1908 with an original nine-hole layout, which was extended to a full 18-hole course at the end of the 1960s. The trees planted during that expansion have since matured, transforming what was formerly farmland into a well-established parkland setting.<\/p>

4=. Pwllheli Golf Club<\/a> (11)<\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Clwb Golff Pwllheli is an 18-hole, par 69 course stretching 6,100 yards, originally designed as a 9-hole course by Tom Morris in 1900 and extended to 18 holes in 1909 under the designs of James Braid, a five-time British Open Champion. Located on the south-facing coastline of Cardigan Bay on the Ll\u0177n Peninsula, the course offers fantastic views stretching across miles of coastline to the mountains of Snowdonia. The course uniquely combines tree-lined parkland golf on the opening holes with links golf on the closing nine holes. The course has no par-fives, which makes scoring particularly challenging. Golf and travel writer Barry Ward describes the par-four 15th as “the highlight in a gem of a course” and includes it along with the par-three 10th in his selection of the best 18 holes in Wales.<\/span><\/p>

Whitchurch Golf Club lies three and a half miles north of Cardiff city centre on elevated ground with panoramic views overlooking the city, Penarth Head, Somerset Coast, and Bristol Channel. The course is sheltered to the north by the Wenallt Hills, with the historic 13th-century Castell Coch providing a picturesque backdrop. Founded in 1914, Whitchurch has developed into a respected parkland layout noted for its challenging Par 3 and Par 4 holes. The course features fast, tricky greens and strategic bunkering designed to penalise wayward shots. The amateur course record stands at 63, while the professional record of 62 is held by Ian Woosnam.<\/p>
